Berks Fiddle Fest

The Friends of the Fleetwood Parks is presenting the Berks Fiddle Fest on Sunday, September 15. This all-day festival will feature the Morning Concert Series, the Fiddle Workshop, an Open Mic Area, The Headliner Band Concert and the highlight of the day – the All Ages Fiddle Competition!  The event has been previously held in Lyons and Bear Creek, but Berks Fiddle Fest is making the Fleetwood Park its new home. Mark your calendars and get ready for a festive day of fiddles, dancing and celebration!

Muhlenberg Lions Club 27th Annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament

The Muhlenberg Lions Club will be holding their 27th Annual Golf Tournament at Rich Maiden Golf Course, on Monday, September 16, 2024 to raise funds for our community endeavors in Muhlenberg Township. All monies raised will be used to help continue to support various community related projects, which include: Academic Achievement Awards, Academic Scholarships for Muhlenberg H.S. Seniors, Beacon Lodge (a PA Lions sponsored summer camp for children with special needs including blindness, deafness, and other physical and mental challenges), the Delaware Valley Eye Bank, Eye exams and eyeglasses, Juvenile Diabetes Research, Leader dogs for the blind, Muhlenberg Community Library, Vision Resource Center of Berks County, support of the Muhlenberg High School Leo Club, and other community service projects.

The cost per player is $70 and includes green fees, cart, soda, beer, coffee and donuts prior to start and a catered lunch following the event.  Please register by September 13 by making checks payable to and sent to Muhlenberg Lions Club, 3507 Chestnut Street Reading, PA 19605.

Crime Alert Berks’ 7th Annual Awards Breakfast

The 7th Annual Crime Alert Berks Awards Breakfast is taking place on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the new Redner Event Center at First Energy Stadium. The event begins at 7:15 AM and will honor Barry Schlouch as the recipient of the Barry E. Rohrbach President’s Award, Leon Grim as the Law Enforcement Officer of the year, and Patrick Boylan will receive the Lifetime Service Award. For over 25 years, Crime Alert Berks County has been leading Commonwealth Crime Stoppers programs and for the past 22 years, they have been the most successful program in Pennsylvania. Since their founding , they have paid $576,124, which lead to over 745 arrests.

The St. Barnabas Center in Kutztown is holding a craft supply extravaganza on September 28, 2024 from 10 AM – 3 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Anyone who has crafting supplies sitting around taking up space in their house can donate items without having to send them to the landfill. Use this event as an opportunity to cultivate a budding craft interest without spending lots of money in start-up costs.  A supervised kids’ crafting table, craft demonstrations and light refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day. CASA of Berks County’s Gala of Light Fundraiser

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Berks County is hosting their Gala of Light Fundraiser on Saturday, September 28 at Building 24 from 5 PM to 8 PM. Champion for Children honors will be awarded to East Penn Manufacturing and Attorney Susan DeNaro for their work improving the lives of children in Berks County. There will be a live auction of art from the Berks County Art Alliance and a fabulous silent auction. Please join us for an enchanting evening of tasty appetizers, live music, and mingling with others who care about Berks’ children.

Proceeds from the Gala of Light funds the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer court appointed child advocates who stand for abused and neglected children of Berks County. The event is expected to raise enough funds to support one-to-one advocacy services for 25 child victims of abuse and neglect. Change a child’s life by attending this event. Tickets are limited. 5th Annual Berks Cultural Diversity Festival

Bring the Change is holding the Fifth annual Berks Cultural Diversity Festival on Sunday, September 29 from 12 to 6 PM at City Park in Reading by the Bandshell. Building upon the success of its inaugural festival, Bring the Change will be hosting this event in partnership with diverse community organizations including the Dominican Association of PA, Jewish Federation of Reading, Centro Hispano Daniel Torres, NAACP Reading Branch, and CICOP. The festival is meant to celebrate diversity and help create greater unity through music, food and dance. The event will be family-friendly with games, food trucks, cultural performances, vendors and more. Unlike most festivals, we include a learning component in our event that will ensure all participants leave with some newly acquired information. We hope this festival will foster a stronger sense of diversity, equity, integration and belonging (DEIB) in Berks Country where people can celebrate their heritage with pride.

Michael H. Wise II Memorial 5K

The Michael H. Wise II Memorial 5K is taking place on Sunday, September 29 at 10 AM at Reading Area Community College. Registration opens at 9 AM, and the 1/2 Mile Kid’s Fun Run starts at 11 AM. This event is rain or shine, and the course is a FAST, wheel-measured course on closed streets and a shaded asphalt trail. Visit the event page website here for more details, such as awards and entry information. This 5K and Kid’s Fun Run is one way that this nonprofit raises money to honor the life of Michael H. Wise II, a City of Reading (PA) Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in June 2004. All proceeds from this event are used to fund scholarships for children of police officers and firefighters; as well as local students looking to pursue careers in public service, specifically law enforcement or emergency medical services. State Police Troop L’s Sunny Day Camp

The Pennsylvania State Police invites children and adults with special needs or disabilities and their families to join them for their free law enforcement based “Sunny Day Camp.” This camp serves residents in Berks, Lebanon, and Schuylkill Counties, and is taking place from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 5 at Camp Manatawny. Demonstrations and activities will include: Aviation / Helicopter Unit, SERT Team, Mounted Unit, Canine Unit, Interacting with troopers, lunch, games, a ride along and much more! There is no age limit to attend camp, but the event will be capped at 50 cadets, so register as soon as you are able to here. Join the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus for their annual Oktoberfest at the Reading Liederkranz on Sunday, October 13. This event is an outdoor celebration in an accessible grove with a pavilion, open-air seating and authentic food and drink ordered by guests at food and beverage stands (cash or credit accepted). Enjoy German music and dancing with The Josef Kroboth Band from 1 to 4 PM. Comfortable dress or German attire is encouraged, and seating is first come, first served. Oley Fire Company Gun Bingo

The Oley Fire Company’s Division of Fire & Rescue Services is hosting a Gun Bingo on Saturday, November 16. Doors open at 4 PM and games begin at 6 PM at the Oley Fair Centre! All proceeds will benefit the Oley Fire Company Division of Fire & Rescue Services, and everyone must be at least 21 years old to enter and play. This event is BYOB, and food and non-alcoholic beverages will be for sale. No outside food is permitted. Tickets are $50 each and includes 20 games of Bingo. Additional cards will be available for sale at the door, as well as special games and extra raffles totaling over $10,000 in prizes. Please bring your own bingo dabbers. Friend Inc.’s Annual Christmas Cheer Program

November and December 2024

Friend, Inc. is hosting their annual Christmas Cheer Program, where they provide gifts for children of their clients. Any group or individual wanting to provide gifts may do so by contacting Friend Inc. and requesting a certain number of children. From there, Friend Inc. will send a label for each child with their sizes and interests. Another way they make a difference is by providing holiday dinners to their many client families in the Kutztown, Fleetwood, and Brandywine Heights area. Friend Inc. supplies the turkey, while they ask volunteers to assemble boxes and the rest of the holiday dinner. (View guidelines here for what to include in your Holiday Box of food). Reading Public Museum’s Noon Year’s Eve

Join Museum Educators and other community partners as the Reading Public Museum rings in the New Year from 9 AM to 12 PM at the museum and The Neag Planetarium! Families will be able to create some fun props and noisemakers that are commonly used to celebrate the holiday. Rejoicing Spirits Services & Fellowship

First Sunday of Every Month

Rejoicing Spirits of Eastern Berks County invites anyone to attend their services and fellowship times on the first Sunday of every month at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Parking is located behind the church with an accessible entrance from the parking lot. All are welcome to each 30 to 40 minute, no-shush ecumenical worship service that enriches the lives of all people, especially the differently-abled, their caregivers, families and friends. Rejoicing Spirits includes music, playing musical instruments, joyous singing, opportunities to participate, brief and meaningful messages, and the chance to connect with others. Join them for snacks and fellowships immediately following each service.
